"Waiting for Superman" was a jaw-dropping experience for me. I never thought our education system was so messed up. And this might not be the most surprising statement but I am glad I live in Georgia. I feel as if I may have not gotten the best education, but I have one and my parents did not have to go through the lottery in order to get me and my seven siblings into school. The film’s most emotional moments revolve around five children whose futures depend on winning a lottery to a charter school. I was very shocked at the things the students have to go through; the parents were much stressed and very disappointed. Another thing that shocked me and made my heart drop was that there are teachers who only teach for the money and they don't love their job. I just hate the fact that we have teachers in the system like this; I can't imagine having this job and not loving what I do. I have wanted this ever since I stepped foot in my kindergarten class room, and I want it now even more than before. After walking into Fort Valley Middle School for the first time and seeing my students and seeing how some of them are so intrigued with learning it touched my heart and I could never imagine choosing a different career.

The lottery shocked me too. I never heard of such a thing until I saw this movie. I became very sad when I saw the effort the children put into trying to get into the school they desired and became crushed when they weren't accepted. I also understand where you're coming from about the bad teachers and how scandalous they are. I had a few in my lifetime which actually made me want to become a teacher till this day. Those teachers motivated me because I didn't want another child to have to deal with such a bad teacher.
ReplyDeleteI know right.... This truly amazes me, I am so glad we're here now. WE ARE THE FUTURE, FUTURE GRADUATES OF THE FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY, & FUTURE PROFICIENT EDUCATORS!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm very proud of your passion to educate the generations that are following behind ours. There is a large number of teachers that dislike their duty to teach and the subjects that they teach, as we saw in the film. Thank you for your passion because that is sincerely required in any school system as well as any position one is to hold. Teaching should not be a job, it should be a passion...I'm so happy you highlighted that fact. I loved reading your thoughts.
