Stone Age Who?
My Vision as a Middle Grades Educator is so much greater than the ones who came before me. I sat down with my mother and had her to explain to me the way she remembers her classroom setup when she was in school and I must say she descried the stone age. They didn't have computers, posters, wall art or anything that made the classroom stick out. When I think of my classroom I see art all over the walls things that will have my students interested in learning. I see spread sheets, graphs, I see a white board, and instead of regualr computers I see Ipads, enough to share with my entire class. I think by having Ipads booksharings will be so much easier and they will help draw the students attention. I see my students sitting three or four to a circle table giving them a chance to get to know their fellow classmates instead of sitting in an individual desk. Yes the classroom setting does play a major role in the outcome of your class but I think its the way the teacher presents it that gives the student a greater understanding of the objects placed in the room.

I Love the way you went back and talked with your mother to compare school during her time with the present. I agree with having art and technology in the classroom to grab the students attention and make them want to learn new things.
ReplyDeleteI love the way you went about trying to know how the past was. The way your classroom is set up sounds like you are giving the children a great experience with some materials they probably never had. You have great details. I would have loved to read more about your mom's experience!!
ReplyDeleteI like the way you compared the compared the classroom settings from the past to the present ones. I also love the idea of students sitting in groups. THis will also help the students build their communication skills.
